4. februārī tiek atzīmēta Pasaules pretvēža diena, kuras mērķis ir veicināt iedzīvotāju izpratni un papildināt zināšanas par ļaundabīgiem audzējiem, to profilaksi un savlaicīgu slimību atklāšanu un ārstēšanu. Arī šogad šai dienai izvēlēts sauklis „Es esmu un es darīšu”, kas apzīmē katra personīgo spēju un apņemšanos ietekmēt nākotni.
Šogad Pasaules pretvēža dienas ietvaros Slimību profilakses un kontroles centrs ir izvēlējies pievērst uzmanību tieši krūts vēža profilaksei, jo Latvijā mirstība no ļaundabīgajiem audzējiem ir otrs biežākais nāves cēlonis pēc sirds un asinsvadu slimībām, savukārt krūts vēzis ir biežāk reģistrētais ļaundabīgais audzējs un visbiežākais nāves cēlonis ļaundabīgo audzēju grupā sievietēm.
Krūts vēža attīstības pirmajās stadijās visbiežāk nav novērojami simptomi, tādēļ ikvienai sievietei ir svarīgi pārliecināties par savu veselības stāvokli, veicot mamogrāfijas izmeklējumu.
